Emboscada

Well team,

We´re in August now! My goodness where has the time gone? It´s pretty crazy stuff fo sho. The weather of Paraguay can´t seem to make up it´s mind and it switches randomly from blasted hot to freezing death. Right now we´re in the freezing death part of it all, so it´s not very much fun. There is also always like a constant misty rain thing that is just super annoying and makes everything wet and cold. I´m just praying for summer to come back. When it does, I´ll be praying for winter. My life is pathetic like that. But, I´m over it. It was another rainy Sunday which is soooo annoying, but we had 45 people in church. That´s pretty dang good for rain! Yeah members in church! The baptism for this week sorta fell due to severe lapses in judgement and boxes of wine and coke....but we´re all getting back on the wagon for another go! We also have more people getting ready for the big day, so there´s some good stuff happening here in Emboscada. The bad news is the bus fare went up! Boo! Technically there is a law here in Paraguay that uniformed clergy don´t have to pay, but of course us being white Americans overrides their law of us not having to pay so we actually get charged more usually. It´s bogus. They hate us :( A man actually kicked us off his bus today haha. He would not take a mil guaraníes for the ride to the supermarket. The next bus did though :D  Argyle is still doing well, and it´s still really cool to be with someone that I knew before the mission. We´re just too cool. I´d send pictures or something, but someone stole (or maybe I just lost, but I doubt it) my camera cable :( Sorry! One day I´ll go into Asunción to find another one. Saturday was national Day of Friendship here in Paraguay. Paraguayans tell us that starting next year, it is going to be a worldwide holiday...is this true? Cause I feel like they just make stuff up sometimes. Pretty much you just congratulate everyone all day long, so it´s pretty annoying. I hope it´s not worldwide. They get out of school early though I guess. I dunno. Weird stuff. But, I think that´s all I´ve got for this week. Nothing too exciting. We´re just trucking right along finding people to teach, and then teachin em! Yeah! I love you all. Have a good week!

Love,
Elder Morris

March 28, 2011--Posta Leiva

Well hello everyone!

Another week has passed down here in Paraguay, and it was a little more interesting than last week. To start, for the first time in my mission I got insulted in English which was kind of exciting cause I could actually understand what she was yelling from her car. Usually its in Guaraní and I dunno if they hate me or if they are commenting on my sweet ties. Also this week we had two more baptisms! We baptized a sweet dude from San Lorenzo named Norberto. He is just too cool. Most people at church already thought he was a member from the Stake Council or something until they saw him in his neato white jumpsuit. We´re all just stoked to see where the church takes him. We also baptized this cool little kid that told us he was 9, but was really 8. Nobody really knows their own age here which is kind of weird. It hadn´t rained for a long while so finally it decided to do some of that again this week which is always fun. Luckily one of our new investigators gave us trash bags to wear. She´s pretty cool too. She even brought her 20 year old daughter to church with her. Hopefully everything continues to go well with that. We´ve found a lot of cool people this past week that have husbands that hate us, which is kind of lame because we can´t really do anything about that.

The time still hasn´t changed here and nobody knows when it does so we just keep waiting for our phones to change one weekend. It´s also supposedly Autumn around here but I haven´t felt any differences. Please take some of our heat. We go to the Asunción temple this thursday which will be pretty cool! It´ll be my first time here so I´m stoked. Then it´ll be Gen Con so it´s going to be a good week for sure!

I feel like there were more stories than this, but all the days blur together and I don´t remember anything! We´re working hard and seeing some lovely fruits of our labors so I´m just pleased as punch. I think that´s all from me this week but I love you all!

Mon Feb 14, 2011 -- Posta Leiva

Oh hey there everyone!
Just another swell week in swell Posta Leiva! It´s been pretty exciting I suppose, and filled with lots of rain which means that it´s cloudy a lot which is quite nice. We had zone conference on thursday which was pretty magical. It was a lot better than the last one cause I could actually understand what people were saying. We did some sweet service this week in the asentimiento. We moved a fence post about 8 inches so the neighbor lady could have 8 inches more of ghetto land. It´s kind of cool how people that live in houses made of trash can argue about less than a foot of weeds! Yeah! And on the way back from the service, we watched a dog get hit by a car. The dog is okay so don´t you worry! The other elders that lived with us had a baptism yesterday which was pretty cool. The new elder got to baptize one of them and you shoulda seen his dunking. Right to the bottom I tell ya! I didn´t think she was coming back up. :O Then after, in South American fashion, they had a sweet party in the church cause it was a birthday! They even had a bouncy house thing. And they had crappy hot chocolate and things called Jet Jet! They are kinda like packing peanuts sprinkled with sand. Mmmm! Yeah! We´re having a baptism this thursday so I´m pretty excited for that one!

In other news, Inocencio said he wanted to "resign his investigatorship". He was scared of baptism so now we´re still working with him, but we´ll see how everything goes. We did find some other cool people this week. One of them is a die-hard catholic lady, but she´s really interested so hopefully all goes well!

Other than that, I think it was pretty quiet down here. Only two more sundays left in this change! Crazy! It´s good to know that there is a rabid fox running around back home. But yeah, happy Valentine´s day everyone! I celebrated by going to a chinese restaurant in Asunción. I didn´t actually eat anything cause I had some crappy food last night that did me something awful. But the food looked good. I love you all! Stay safe and happy and all that jazz!

Mon Feb 7, 2011 -- Posta Leiva

Hello again family and friends,
Another week has passed in good old Paraguay. It was kind of rainy this week so nothing tooooo exciting happened. We had interviews with Presidente Madariaga this week which was nice. Our house kind of flooded too because of the rain and whatnot. That was kind of fun. One of the drainage pipes on our upstairs patio thing was clogged with stuff so the water wasn´t draining fast enough. But, we solved the problem and it made for magical photos I guess. Also, we did some sweet service this week. We got to cut jungle stuff with machetes which was pretty fun. Elder Macias (new guy) was cutting down a branch from a tree and broke his machete in half. The half that went flying almost hit me but I dodged it like the Matrix! And for Pday today we went into San Lorenzo and I found a sweeeeet backpack. So I bought it :D It´s pretty legit. One day you´ll all see it. A lot of the days were much less hot this week, and that made showering without a heater kind of awful. I really hope I´m not here in Posta Leiva when winter comes. Elder Macias got his first real Pday today because for the past few he´s been running errands with his Zone Leader/trainer, but today his Zone Leader/trainer had to go to Asunción for Jedi Council with Presdidente Madariaga. So Macias got to come with us! He saw his first parrot in Paraguay today and was most pleased. Then the parrot pooped. Woo!
Our cool investigator Inocencio had an emergency and had to go to Asunción instead of church on Sunday :( But he´s really stoked to get baptized he says so that´ll happen in February hopefully. He´s legit. And old. Other than that, the missionary work is going smoothly and whatnot. It´s really annoying being in a country with two national languages cause everyone on the street yells at us in Guarani and I dunno what they´re saying. It´s probably better that way. But yeah, that´s all I have for this week. We´re already halfway done with this change. It´s pretty crazy how fast time flies on the mission. I´m having a good time and it´s pretty sweet to hear that Matt gets to use some of that French he learned in school! I love you all! Be safe and be happy! :D
