Posta Leiva

Oh hey everyone!

Changes came and went, and I´m still in good ole Posta Leiva, but now I´m with a new companion named Elder Brammer! He´s from Oklahoma! The biggest tornado in history passed less than a mile by his house! That means he´s super legit. He also likes to run a lot, but I refuse to run with him so he´ll have a not-runny change. Oops. This is his first change being senior comp, so we´re both going to learn how to be senior comps I suppose. 4 changes is sorta a lot, but we still have stuff to do, so I think everything will be good. Sometimes it´s hard to plan the days cause I feel like I´ve been everywhere. Whew!

Also, this morning we moved! We went from our giant house with two stories to a little teeny house. It´s kind of hard to fit everything in the house, and the lady that we´re renting from is pretty crazy. I hope she doesn´t always want to pop in, but I have a feeling she´ll be like that. We have a banana plant in the back of our house, which is just too cool! They aren´t quite ready yet, but when they are it´ll be awesome.

I got sick this morning which was pretty crappy, but I´m recovering now I think. We´ve got a couple of baptisms lined up in the next couple of weeks, so hopefully they all decide that they want to keep coming to church and everything goes well. It´s starting to get colder around here. We now live in a house with warm water so at least the showers won´t kill us. Other than that, it´s just business as usual. Elder Brammer and I are just working on finding some new people this week and all that good stuff. I love you all!

Love,
Elder Morris

Posta Leiva

Why hello everyone,
Change number 5 is now coming to an end. We still haven´t recieved any news on where anyone is going or anything like that, but I´ll update you next week if I have a new comp or area or something like that. We should find out tonight.

This week was business as normal down here in Paraguay. We found a new lady named Ana Maria and she is super cool. She´s already come to church and it seemed like she liked it a lot. She lived in Spain for 7 years and so is smarter than normal Paraguayans, which makes it much easier to teach her stuff. It makes me happy. Right now as we speak, there is a drunk man poking me and talking to me in Guaraní...oh yay! That was kind of fun. He´s now gone, so on with the email! This week I went on a division with the Zone Leader Elder Claypool which was pretty fun. It´s always interesting to see how other missionaries do certain things. He likes to talk a lot, that´s for sure. :D

We found a crazy lady that day that was comparing us to sheep cause they like to eat grass and kneel in the shade and stuff. All in all, that was her reason for why we pray kneeling down. It was an interesting view. Norberto´s daughter now wants to get baptized, so we´re teaching her and Norberto´s girlfriend´s (her name is Ines) son, and they´ll get baptized pretty soon.

We didn´t really have too much success this past change, but now we´re getting some good stuff happening. We´ll see which one of us stays to see it through! Also, we found a huge fruit a couple of changes ago (I think I´ve mentioned that before) and last night we took one and broke it open. It didn´t taste good at all, but the outside was hard enough to make little helmets! So we did that and it was cool. I´ll send a picture for you guys!

Other than that it was just a good week without anything too crazy going down. My new shoes are doing well. They kind of hurt my feet, but I think that´s cause they´re new so eventually it´ll all be good. We´ll see how long they last against Paraguayan empedrado. I´m doing well down here and I´m quite happy with all the stuff that´s happening. I love you all, and I hope you have a good week!

16 May 2011 - Posta Leiva

Oh why hello everyone.
This week was kind of exciting because it was 200 years of Paraguay existence! Woo! Also Miley Cyrus came to Asuncion. She didn't speak any Spanish or Guarani at all, so people don't really like her right now. They say she's a bad person! I think it's funny how she's come to Latin America and doesn't even say hola or anything. What a champ!

Also for the Bicentenario of Paraguay they tried to break the world record for longest flag. They got a flag that was 22km long, but it didn't count in the Guiness Book of Records because all the young kids and people signed the flag before it was measured so I thought that was pretty funny. They wrote how cool their soccer teams were and stuff like that, and now they don't get to go in the records! Also, they interviewed a model on tv and they asked how the Bicentenario was going. She said that it was pretty unorganized but next year's Bicentenario will be much better! Oh sigh. She also said that Paraguay had around 6,000 people. She is most certainly not winning any Miss South Jordan pageants! Hey oh!

Other than that, it was a normalish week. It was really sad to work all week just to have everyone say they were leaving for Mothers day (it's one week later here) but other than that it was good. We made Ines and Norberto brownies for Mothers day which was fun. They'd never had them before so it was just magical. Elder Sperry gave a good talk on Sunday about mothers. What a champ! And we had to go to Asuncion this wednesday for some paper signing and on the way back the ruta was closed for a parade so we had to take some sweet back roads to get back on track. Our bus man took his own route and we got lost sorta and it took like 45 minutes longer than normal, but it was pretty fun at least. Friday the 13th passed without harm. Other than that, it was a good week without too many incidents. Oh and also, we had a less active member tell us she didn't go to church cause she poke her belly button too badly or something like that. It's better in Spanish. "No me fui porque toque mal mi ombligo" Yeah! Also, my shoes and stuff arrived and all is well for my feet! Thanks for all that good stuff! I think that's all team. I love you all and hope that it's going magically back home!

Mother's Day 2011

Well Mother´s day has now passed, and the skype home was pretty awesome I must say. As a result of said phone call, I don´t really have anything too crazy to say. This week we had Zone Conference which is always nice, so that made me happy. After those initial 2 cold days, it´s just as hot as ever down here. I think it´s going to decide to cool down this week sometime but we´ll see. My cold that have is now passing, and today we played some sweet basketball. They called Elder Sperry today and asked him what airport he´d like to land in back home, so he´s pretty stoked about that. Crazy stuff for sure! Other than that, normal week full of teaching and walking and all sorts of lovely missionary type things. I wore my contacts today so that I could play some crazy basketball, but they didn´t really help. I´m still not good. :( Also, I had a division this past week with someone who´s been in Paraguay for 4 weeks, so I pretty much was walking around with a shadow cause he can´t say much. I feel like that´s a good gauge of my Spanish, and I made it through the day without incident which is just great. That is all you will get this week my people. Keep being awesome, and I love you all!

Elder Morris

2 May 2011 - Posta Leiva

Oh why hello there everyone,
The colder weather has finally started to arrive down here in good ole Paraguay. We don´t have hot water so I´d wish that warmer weather came back haha. Oh sad day. This week was pretty calm and normal. It rained some and was cold some and we walked around some and it was just dandy.
Today I bought a sweet t shirt in San Lorenzo. That´s pretty lame, but honestly nothing too exciting happened this week haha. Sooooo I will now publicly answer people´s questions on this email so I actually have something to write.
1. Nobody down here cares at all the Bin Laden is dead, so I actually just found out from you guys that he was shot. That´s pretty spiffy though. Make sure you keep me updated on world news. Paraguay doesn´t really follow that stuff...
2. The food down here is not good. So when you´re eating burritos and thinking about how much better my food is down here, you are mistaken :) I would really like one of the frozen burritos haha.
For those that wonder, the food here is pretty much really low quality beef with noodles or rice. And then sometimes they have chicken with the noodles/rice. Then they have lots of cornish type bread. It´s not necessarily bad, but it´s the same thing every day. I don´t get why they don´t try to change things up. At home I eat yogurt because it´s really thin and lovely here. Like those smoothie things that you can buy back home, but they are really cheap here and come in 1 liter bags! Woo!
Elder Sperry and I got blessed by some crazy preacher man this week during contacting. It was pretty intense with his shouting and hallelujah´s and whatnot but I was entertained. He quoted a lot of scriptures too. Quite knowledgable!
The search for the house continues, but now we have a fixed deadline because the dueño raised the rent at the one we´re at now, and the church won´t pay for it so we have till the end of May. The other house that we were looking at fell through, but we´ll find one hopefully. We also tossed around a frisbee today. You will all be so proud of my frisbee throwing abilities when I get home. I´m pretty close to pro now.
I don´t really have anything else to say, but sometimes uneventful weeks are okay. At least nothing crazy happened. We do have zone conference on Wednesday so that´ll be fun. I´ll report next monday! I hope you all have just a lovely week! Stay awesome!
Love,
Elder Morris
