Emboscada

Why hello everyone

Today marks another month gone in the magical world of mission life. It´s kind of weird, but I´ll get over it :)

For all of you soccer fans, Paraguay got stomped 3 to 0 in the finals of the copa américa by Uruguay. So we got second place which is still pretty good!

It rained a lot during the week which wasn´t very much fun, but it didn´t rain on Sunday. Yay! During the week we did a division with Juan de Salazar, and I was with an Elder that´s been in Paraguay for 2 weeks. We were in his area so I didn´t know where anything was, and neither did he so it was pretty interesting. Luckily we made it through the day and everyone is happy. We had to extend the division for a day because there was a bus problem and there were no buses going back from Emboscada, so Argyle and his comp for a day couldn´t get back to us. It was no good.

Good news is, we have a baptism this Saturday! A lady named Lilian that we found is going to get baptized. And, next week we have 2 more possibles to get baptized. They just have to come to church this Sunday another time. They´re super legit so it´ll all be good. The work here in Emboscada is getting better. We´re finally having more members come to church and they´re being less poopy which just makes everyone happy.

The weather now is all sorts of weird. It´s hot and cold in the same day and it´s just nuts. It makes it hard to be comfortable during the day. Other than that, it´s just same stuff going down. We walk a lot and teach a lot and it´s just magical. No more dogs have tried to bark at us this week so at least they aren´t dying. I think that´s all I have for this week. I love you all, and everything is going just great here. :D

Emboscada

Oh hello everyone!

Everything is going just fine down here in Emboscada. The big news of the week is that Paraguay beat Brazil yesterday in a shootout and are now advancing to the semifinals of the Copa América! They play either Venezuela or Chile, depending on whoever won yesterday. Paraguayans don´t watch games that don´t include Paraguay so I haven´t heard yet.

It rained again on Sunday which was just super crappy. We had 33 in church instead of 18 though so we´re improving I suppose. I´m hoping we don´t have a whole change of rainy sundays. That´d be pretty awful.

Today we went to Limpio and played some soccer with other elders which was pretty fun. Elder Argyle managed to lose 100 mil and his missionary handbook and his documents and whatnot between there and the store to buy food. I had to buy his food for him. I had just enough :D We went back to look for it, but we never found it. Buuuut because of the delay for looking and whatnot, we found a girl waiting at the bus stop to go back to Emboscada and she told us that she had spoken with the Elders before and they taught her some English and she went to church once and whatnot. So we´re going to her house tomorrow to talk to her :O Hopefully it all goes well, cause then Argyle losing 100 mil would be worth it.

This week when we were walking back to Emboscada from a neighboring little town a couple of dogs started to follow us from across the street and they were barking and such. And it was at night time so it was hard to see, so mr. taxi man didn´t see the doggies and he got one of em dang good with his car. The other dog that didn´t die stopped barking, probably because he just watched his friend die :O Don´t bark at missionaries!

It´s been pretty hot still, but they say that starting tomorrow it´s going to get cold for a couple of weeks or something and then Summer comes. Mmmmm. At least I only have one more summer here. The work here is coming right along. We´ve started assigning people to do home and visiting teaching, because none of the leaders will do it. We assign each member that wants to help 3 people to go out and visit. One of the ladies had 2 of her people come back to church already so she´s just super stoked cause the visits actually work. We´ll keep on keeping on down here. Emboscada will be better! Woo! Anywho, I think that´s all the exciting news that I have for this week. I´ll let you all know if something crazy happens! I love you all!

Emboscada

Well hello everyone,
We had a problem with the buses yesterday in Asunción so we got back home late and all sorts of good stuff like that, but here I am still! For crazy news, changes happened and once again I have a new companion! That makes 3 companions within 7 weeks.

My new comp is....Elder Argyle from Highland! I actually knew him before the mission in Jr. High and he was in my dorm in college which is pretty cool. So we already know each other and it´s all just lovely. It´s kind of weird how we were sitting in 9th grade seminary together and we never thought we´d be in Emboscada, Paraguay trying to make the church function better. Weird. What a small world.

We worked really hard last week which is always satisfying, and since I only have 3 weeks here and he now has 4 days, it´s interesting for both of us to try and learn the area. We´ve found lots of hidden less active members all over the place and so now we´re working with all of them to come back to church! The sad news is that it rained really hard on Sunday, which in Paraguay means no one comes to church. To start the first meeting we had one guy there and us two missionaries. The second hour there was 4 of us, and then for the final 10 minutes of sacrament meeting there were 18 people in total. Rain on Sunday is always depressing, cause we can´t actually gauge if our work for the week would have brought people to church. But, igual we´re going to keep on keeping on. It´s kind of exciting to pretty much start over in an area, cause everything is new to both of us. Practically every single house has not been contacted as far as we know. We have plenty of work here fo sho. As far as the weather goes, it´s gone back to being hot and whatnot. It´s actually pretty nice during the days and nights I guess too. Apparently the winters here have a couple weeks of freezing death and then heat and then a couple more weeks of freezing death and things like that. So in a little bit the freezing death should come back. It´s kind of crazy.

Like I said, yesterday we went to the office in Asunción to do some stuff and then ended up waiting for 2 hours for a dirty bus to take us back to Emboscada. The expo (it´s like a state fair or something) just started so all of the buses are packed so lots of them don´t actually stop. It was not good. We did eat some McDonald´s in Asunción though! Yeeeeah! They don´t actually mix your mcflurries here. Not made with the tender care and love like in the States. But, yeah. That´s what I´ve got for you guys for this week. I´m not dead, and I´m working with good ole Argyle from Jr. High. I love you all back home! Keep fighting the good fight!

Emboscada

Why hello everyone,

Another week gone in Emboscada, and the cold has come to stay it seems. Oooooh boy! Also, changes happen this Wednesday, but we still don´t know them so I don´t have any exciting news there. But, my MTC comp got a special change last week to a place called Curuguaty, and his first day there he got mugged haha. Oh dear that´s going to be rough for him there I think.

There are all sorts of changes going on in the mission. Lots of areas are being closed and stuff because not too many missionaries are coming on Wednesday to replace old ones, but then in September more than 30 are coming, so it´s just going to be nuts! As far as news go, another non eventful week has passed. But, the other day we were walking past a San Juan (some sort of weird traditional party thing they do here) and saw some crazy stuff. In San Juans they have a giant pole that´s been greased and people try to climb and get prizes, and there are flaming balls that they kick around, and all sorts of other crazy stuff. They burn a big stuffed Judah and shoot fireworks at him and stuff. But anyway, we were walking past and watched them kick the flaming balls around. It´s pretty nuts. People were getting hit in the face and falling over, and hitting babies of moms that were walking through, and little toddlers catching their pants on fire. Only in Paraguay. The guy that was lighting the balls and kicking them into the crowds was drunk, which didn´t really help much either. It was too cool.

The work here in Emboscada is really different from Posta Leiva, so I´m still trying to do my best out here in this little branch. And, this week we moved houses to one that is much better. The other one, you had to study outside and stuff and it was freezing and I wanted to die, but now we moved and it´s nice and cozy. :D I don´t really want to move anymore though. That´s twice in a month. Too much moving!

The American Cup is going down right now, (soccer tourney) so I´ll keep you guys updated on how Paraguay is doing! They played against Ecuador and it ended in a tie. Yeah soccer! And today is the 4th of July! But, I´m with a Latin and he doesn´t care at all obviously. So he didn´t do anything cool. But, other than that, life goes on down here and it´s just peachy. But, I love you all back home. Keep on keeping on and doing the right things. God will bless you for it.

Love,
Elder Morris
